Recently, the College of Communication Engineering (CCE) has successfully completed the second quality overseas course for postgraduates -- Frontier Technology in Wireless Communication, presented by Dr. Wei Zhang, Associate Professor of the School of Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications of the University of New South Wales, Australia, and IEEE Fellow. Mr. Zhao Xiaohui, Dean of the CCE attended the opening ceremony.

First, Mr. Zhao, on behalf of all the CCE faculty and students, extended warm welcome to Dr. Zhang for his visit. He pointed out that this course was crucial for students if they wanted to work in this field. He also expressed his hope that students should cherish this opportunity to attentively learn from Dr. Zhang’s lecture, including precious theoretical knowledge and experience.

During the course, Dr. Zhang illustrated, in English, fundamental theories on wireless communication and information theory, with focus on key technologies of MIMO theory, space-time coding, OFDM, and MIMO-OFDM as applied in 4G mobile communication. From deep-rooted problems related to interference theory in mobile communication network, he covered key technologies including interference alignment, blind interference alignment, and space-time coding in interference channels. Finally, Dr. Zhang gave a detailed mathematical deduction and illustration of four practical problems from the perspective of spectrum sensing and spectrum sharing in cognitive radio.

Participants, both teachers and students, all said it was an instructive and rewarding lecture, which enabled them to understand cutting-edge technologies in the international communications and personally experience high-level teaching methods of a foreign university. The two successfully held quality overseas courses for postgraduates have both been well received and praised across the whole College.
